Simply south of the city centre, the neighbourhood sits on the slopes above Cape Town City Bowl. And while many people will understand of the Business's Gardens and Gardens Shopping Centre, both fall just outside the suburb. But at Look At This Piece of Gardens is Kloof Street, which is home to numerous dynamic bars and a handful of the city's finest dining establishments.
Filmmaker and Cape Town resident Sean Drummond, who wrote and produced popular South African function movie 5 Fingers for Marseille and who's dealing with a movie adaptation of Charlie Human's novel Apocalypse Now Now, has chosen to set up office in Gardens. It's also no coincidence that the suburb is house to the city's only independent arthouse cinema, where he's managed the regional hosting of short film festival shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival for several years.
The Business's Garden worked as a place for among the first farms supplying fresh fruit and vegetables to showing up and leaving seafarers. Although these days it's much better called a location to feed squirrels, there is now a restaurant below the trees and a small fresh fruit and vegetables farm as a throwback to that remote age.
